Course Description
The 22636VIC Course in EAL (Access) is designed for pre-literate students many of whom arrive in Australia with severely interrupted education and little or no previous education or learning experiences. These pre arrival experiences may influence their ability to settle in Australia and apply the skills required to learn a new language. These learners need to develop an identity as a learner and establish learning routines. The course is intended to provide participants with the following educational outcomes:
- basic decoding and encoding skills
- handwriting skills such as copying and hand-eye coordination
- recognition of common high frequency function words and nouns to convey familiar personal information
- conventions of an Australian classroom such as punctuality and attendance.
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this qualification. The language, literacy and numeracy outcomes of this course align to pre level 1 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).
Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN)
All learners are required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment prior to the commencement of training to ensure placement into an appropriate level of EAL course.
Pre-Training Review
All learners must undertake pre-training review prior to the enrolment or commencement of the course. The pre- training review:
- determines the most suitable course based on capabilities including Literacy and Numeracy), aspirations and interests;
- makes a link to individual’ s career goals; and
- gathers information to inform if training can be delivered as planned or requires adjustments to the strategy to be made to suit individual needs.
System Requirements
As learners may need to access digital and online contents during the course, it is recommended that they have access to computer (laptop or desktop) or a tablet/smartphone with a reliable internet connection.
Course Duration
26 weeks as a full-time. 4 weeks of term breaks and school holidays.
Delivery Mode
Face to face classes will be scheduled for 2 days a week from 9:00 am to 4.30pm

Assessment Methods
A range of assessment methods will be used to assess required skills and knowledge for each unit of competency. These may include but not limited to
- Role plays
- Observation and Demonstration
- Portfolio
- On-going teacher assessment
- verbal questioning to confirm linguistic, sociolinguistic and cultural knowledge.
Pathways from the Course
After achieving this qualification learners may consider pursuing 22638VIC Certificate I in EAL (Access)

How do I enrol?
Prior to the enrolment read and understand the course information provided in this course information flyer, our website and the student handbook. Then complete the enrolment process by following the steps outlined below:
- Select the course of study you wish to undertake.
- Complete the application form and sign to declare that you have understood all the information provided.
- Scan and email the Application Form to EITE and supporting documents to info@eite.edu.
- Please note that application will not be processed without an application fee of $50. Alternatively, you lodge your application form along with the certified copies of supporting documents at our office in Suite 305, Level 3, 1510 Pascoe Vale Road, Coolaroo VIC 3048.
- The application form will then be assessed by EITE. If your application is successful, EITE will send a Letter of Offer and Acceptance Form which is required to be signed and returned to the EITE with required payments and documentation.
- Learners will be sent a confirmation of their enrolment if successful.
